Earlier this year, developers publiched a roadmap update for the first half of 2024, revealing that this release would make it in Q2 of this year and offer a new user interface, backend improvements and polished and balanced combat system. The team has managed to launch the new version right on schedule, with improved gameplay and significant changes to the combat system that should help provide a better gaming experience. Changes are based on tester feedback gathered during the Alpha phase.

Next to combat adjustments, the sound effects also got an update. Game greets you with a new visual style alongside new animations and an overhauled user interface for a more dynamic and user-friendly experience.

    Introduction to Chain of Alliance

Chain of Alliance is a turn-based party-builder RPG that launched in February 2022. The game world evolves based on the choices and actions of the community. Heroes are the core assets, created by players using components like the arms, torso, and head. Each component has its unique attributes and different rarity then it further customizable through the Hero’s race, class, and the player’s choice of equipment. The new Aspects and Engraving mechanics introduced in the beta add even more depth to the customization process.

The turn-based combat system and party-building mechanics enhance strategic gameplay. Players can form teams of Heroes to tackle various quests and challenges. This adds depth and variety to the gaming experience.

    Chain of Alliance Combat Changes

Developers also reworked the combat mechanics in Chain of Alliance entirely to offer a more flexible system. Here’s the list of changes.

    • Grid Size Reduction: Reduction of the battle grid to a 2×2 layout from the previous 3×2. This change forces more strategic placement of heroes, emphasizing the impact of piercing and cleaving effects.
    • Removal of Action Points (AP): Previously, the game’s AP system limited player choices, as players had to plan their moves in advance, using cheaper skills to save AP for more expensive ones later in the game. This approach restricted flexibility and responsiveness in gameplay. By removing AP, all skills now cost the same, allowing decisions based on the current situation. This change simplifies the skill system, giving players a clear choice among four options each turn, enhancing strategic flexibility and immediate decision-making.
    • Health and Damage Adjustments: To streamline gameplay and improve understanding, we’ve adjusted the starting health points and damage metrics. Heroes’ health will now vary depending on their class and stats.
    • Skills Rework: Skills are now categorized into two types: Weapon Skills and Class Skills. Weapon Skills primarily deal damage and are further defined by their appearance and effects, such as swords causing single-target damage, spears and bows piercing, daggers and claws causing bleeding, and maces and hammers cleaving. Support and magic weapons serve more as extensions of class skills, focusing on support functions and elemental damage, respectively. Class skills are more traditional, with roles like Tank, DPS, and Support, each playing a vital role. This setup ensures that players can easily understand each character’s capabilities and the impact of their weapons by observing the battlefield.

    Chain of Alliance Class Changes

Magical damage was also removed from the game because it overlapped too much with Physical and Elemental damage. Now, only Elemental and Physical damage types will be in use. Class designs revamp added more distinction and effectiveness. This clearer definition of roles enhances both understanding and teamwork during battles:

    • Fighter: A tanky DPS class that excels as the frontline defense, using Taunt and Block to protect themselves and control enemies.
    • Paladin: A supportive tank class that protects themselves and their teammates, focusing on Taunt and Shield.
    • Ranger: Masters of critical strikes, they specialize in setting up powerful critical hits with the Mark status.
    • Bard: Supportive characters who can cleanse, heal, and shield allies, primarily focusing on healing abilities.
    • Assassin: Deadly warriors skilled in inflicting sustained damage over time, utilizing Bleeding effects.
    • Mage: Versatile elemental casters who use a broad range of abilities to exploit elemental weaknesses of their opponents.

    New Art and Animation

New art, animations, and VFX have been added to make Chain of Alliance more visually polished. The early version of the game was limited by web game technology, but now the game have its unique look and design. The visual upgrades to the arenas are also noteworthy, making each battle more vibrant and exciting.

Hero customization is a key feature of Chain of Alliance. Players can create Heroes using different components, each with unique attributes. These attributes are enhanceable through the new Aspects and Engraving mechanics, allowing for detailed customization.

In their roadmap update developers also revealed the release of CoA Token later this year. CoA token utilization will be introduced, enabling easy NFT transfers between player accounts, and bringing several other improvements soon. Developers will reveal more information about the tokenomics in the upcoming months.

Chain of Alliance utilizes a single-token model, with CoA being the main currency of the game. CoA has multiple functions within the game, including serving as the main currency of the marketplace, and as the governance token. Token will have various uses such as rewards from PvE and PvP, and staking rewards. Also CoA will serve as a currency paid to unlock, craft, level up characters and arenas and transaction fees.
